Wet Room Being Built

Building Work Challenges

When home suddenly is not accessible. Calm, step free accommodation with the equipment you rely on, so essential repairs can carry on without pressure.

A real example from Little Bench

We recently welcomed a couple for what was meant to be a three week stay. It became six.

Their home had suffered a serious leak, and the downstairs accessible wet room had to be replaced. Drying out took longer than expected, and the bathroom needed to remain out of action while the work was completed. Without that ground floor bathroom, their home simply did not work.

They needed ground floor accommodation, a fully accessible wet room, and the disability equipment that supports everyday independence. They also needed a warm, calm space to rest, especially during a long stretch of rain and grey weather.

Staying with dignity

Insurance building work rarely runs exactly to plan. Drying times change, materials get delayed, and access is restricted.

Because they were staying with us, the builders could work uninterrupted. Fans could run, floors could dry properly, and there was no pressure to rush something that needed time.

Most importantly, they retained independence in a space designed for accessibility, not adapted afterwards.

“We spent six weeks in Little Bench while our property was being renovated and we were very comfortable. All the disability aids that my husband uses at home were provided. So many lovely places to visit in the area. Helen and Matt were very helpful and we couldn't have been made more welcome. Would thoroughly recommend this lovely cottage.”
